Apple is actively seeking partnerships as it enters the AI arena. Following the recent announcement of Apple Intelligence, the company revealed plans to integrate OpenAI’s ChatGPT into the revamped Siri. Additionally, reports indicate that Apple is in discussions with Meta, Facebook’s parent company, regarding a similar partnership.

These discussions with Meta are not yet finalized and could still fall through. Both Apple and Meta have not provided comments on these talks.

Apple’s approach to AI focuses on practical enhancements rather than revolutionary changes. By incorporating AI-powered features such as writing suggestions and custom emojis into its existing products, Apple aims to emphasize utility over novelty. This practical approach may facilitate wider AI adoption, allowing Apple to extend its capabilities through strategic partnerships.

A potential deal with Meta could diversify Apple’s AI collaborations, reducing reliance on a single partner and validating Meta’s generative AI technology. Instead of direct payments, Apple offers distribution channels to its AI partners, who can then monetize through premium subscriptions.

Despite concerns from Elon Musk, who co-founded OpenAI and now competes with it through his startup xAI, Apple assures that it will seek user permission before sharing any data with ChatGPT. Any collaboration with Meta is expected to follow similar privacy safeguards.

Apple has also indicated that the rollout of Apple Intelligence in the latest operating systems (iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia) will occur later this year. However, due to the EU’s Digital Markets Act, which aims to promote competition, Apple plans to withhold certain features like iPhone Mirroring and SharePlay Screen Sharing from the European market.
