Wisconsin’s SWIB Discloses Bitcoin Purchase in Quarterly 13F Report
Wisconsin’s State of Wisconsin Investment Board (SWIB) has disclosed the purchase of Bitcoin in its quarterly 13F report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The board also invested in shares of Grayscale’s Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) worth approximately $64 million.
This move by SWIB marks the first instance of a state publicly disclosing Bitcoin purchases. The board manages over $156 billion in assets, including the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) and other state trust funds.
The disclosure is significant as it coincides with the March 15 deadline for institutional investment managers with at least $100 million in assets under management to file quarterly holdings. Market observers are keen to see if other large traditional finance (TradFi) funds have also invested in Bitcoin ETFs following their recent launch.
