Tesla has initiated a recall affecting all 3,878 Cybertrucks currently in circulation, prompted by concerns over an issue with the accelerator pedal. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) highlighted the potential danger, as the pedal could become stuck, increasing the risk of accidents. This announcement follows a challenging week for Tesla, marked by significant layoffs and the departure of two high-ranking executives. Reports of accelerator pedal problems emerged recently, prompting Tesla to temporarily halt deliveries while conducting investigations.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, addressed the situation, stressing the company’s commitment to caution. Musk noted that as of the announcement, there were no reported incidents of crashes or injuries related to the issue. The decision to recall all Cybertrucks was made after thorough testing and examination of reported incidents. Tesla identified an unauthorized change that introduced a lubricant during the pedal assembly process, reducing the pedal’s retention.
Tesla’s recall plan involves replacing or reworking the accelerator pedals on all existing Cybertrucks. Additionally, the company has commenced production of Cybertrucks with an updated accelerator pedal design. Measures are also being taken to address vehicles in transit or awaiting delivery at Tesla’s distribution centers.
Despite being a relatively recent addition to Tesla’s lineup, this isn’t the first recall for the Cybertruck. Earlier this year, Tesla issued a recall related to software issues affecting warning light font sizes across its entire vehicle fleet. The Cybertruck, first unveiled in 2019, has experienced several setbacks since its introduction, but Tesla remains committed to addressing safety concerns and ensuring the quality of its vehicles.
