The announcement of Project Bellwether coincides with the news that the United States National Guard’s Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) will utilize the project’s “prediction engine.” Current technology often causes delays in response times, putting lives and property at risk. Bellwether’s tools aim to streamline this process, providing forecasts of wildfire risk up to five years into the future and assisting first responders in identifying critical infrastructure after a disaster.
